Makeup Call for Hip-Hop Zombies

The Film Program at Soundview Academy for Culture and Scholarship will expose students to the history, theory and practice of filmmaking. Students will integrate their understanding of community, current events and television news into the creation of short video programs and longer documentaries that express their varied viewpoints on subjects of interest to them and their peers. They will then expand upon their early research and create narrative (fictional) screenplays exploring how the issues can affect neighborhoods, communities and even the entirety of New York City and beyond.

Mr. Freelon brings his long career in television, film, theatre and education to the Soundview Academy family with the goal of strengthening and expanding the Digital Film Program. Ultimately, Soundview Academy's 6th, 7th and 8th graders will learn the technical, business and creative aspects of independent filmmaking through this exciting program. They will visit film locations and broadcast facilities in New York City, meeting technicians, performers and production staff who represent just a sampling of the many career paths to be found in media technology.

Finally, SVA's Digital Film Program’s directors, producers, writers, actors, scenic designers, costumers and videographers will have to opportunity to present their body of work at the 4th Annual Soundview Academy Film Festival in the spring of 2015.
